Same truck, different badge, same offer

A Sierra 1500 is a Silverado 1500 with different trim, and the buyers who set our offers treat it that way. The recall history is nearly identical because it is the same vehicle: the 2014 Sierra carries nine NHTSA recalls to the 2014 Silverado's six, largely the same brake and airbag campaigns. If you have read our Chevrolet page, the pricing logic there is the pricing logic here.

What differs is the complaint pattern. The 2014 Sierra's 858 NHTSA complaints are led by exterior lighting (181), which is the headlight-brightness issue owners of that generation know about, ahead of service brakes (111). It is a low-cost problem for a buyer and does not move the offer much. Brake and steering repairs, if they were done, are worth mentioning.

Where GMCs sit on longevity

iSeeCars' 2025 study shows 10.8% of Sierra 1500s reaching 250,000 miles, and 22.0% of Sierra 2500HDs, against a 4.8% average for all vehicles. A high-mileage heavy-duty Sierra that still runs is a used-truck sale in New York, not a scrap sale, and the offer will show it. A running half-ton with 200,000 miles is the same story at a smaller scale.

Terrain and Acadia

These are priced like any crossover: whether it runs, whether the title is clean, and whether the catalytic converter is present. Under New York's 2022 law, a scrap processor must record the VIN the converter came from before buying it, so a Terrain missing its converter carries a replacement cost for the buyer. Tell us in the form if it was stolen; a police report helps.

What to have ready

GMCs from 1973 on have a New York title. If it is lost, the DMV replaces it with form MV-902, and for old enough vehicles a transferable registration is enough. Remove the plates before pickup and return them to the DMV so the registration and insurance stop. Start the form with the VIN; it identifies the exact truck, which is how the offer is built.

Have Questions?

Get answers and get on your way.

Is a Sierra worth the same as a Silverado?

Effectively yes. A Sierra 1500 is a Silverado 1500 with different trim, and the buyers who set our offers treat it that way. The recall records are nearly identical because it is the same vehicle: nine NHTSA recalls on the 2014 Sierra to the 2014 Silverado's six, largely the same brake and airbag campaigns.

My 2014 Sierra has the dim headlight problem. Does it hurt the offer?

Barely. Exterior lighting leads that truck's NHTSA file at 181 of 858 complaints, ahead of service brakes at 111. It is a low-cost fix for a buyer and it does not move the number much. Brake and steering work, if it was done, is worth mentioning.

Should I sell a high-mileage heavy-duty Sierra?

Only if it has actually stopped earning. iSeeCars' 2025 study puts the Sierra 2500HD at 22.0% reaching 250,000 miles and the Sierra 1500 at 10.8%, against a 4.8% average. A running heavy-duty Sierra is a used-truck sale in New York, not a scrap sale, and the offer will show it.

How do you price a Terrain or an Acadia?

Like any crossover: whether it runs, whether the title is clean, and whether the catalytic converter is still bolted on. Under New York's 2022 law a processor must record the VIN a converter came from, so a Terrain missing its converter carries a replacement cost for the buyer.

What paperwork do you need?

GMCs from 1973 on have a New York title. If it is lost, DMV form MV-902 replaces it; for old enough vehicles a transferable registration is enough. Remove the plates before pickup and return them to the DMV so the registration and insurance stop.
