Fords are two different sales depending on the body
F-150, 2015 and newer. Ford moved the F-150 to a high-strength aluminum-alloy body for the 2015 model year, dropping up to 700 pounds from the truck. For a seller that has two effects that pull in opposite directions. Aluminum body panels are worth more per pound to a recycler than steel, but the truck weighs less, so the scrap floor does not change much. What changes is the parts value: a straight 2015-or-newer bed, tailgate, or door is expensive new and sought after used. An aluminum F-150 with a good body and a dead engine is usually a parts sale, not a scrap sale, and the offer is higher for it.
F-150 and Super Duty, 2014 and older. Steel body, heavier, and the classic New York rust pattern: cab corners, rocker panels, and the bed floor above the rear wheels. These trucks are priced on weight plus whatever the drivetrain is worth. A running 5.4L or 6.2L is worth keeping in the truck; a seized one is not.
Escape, Fusion, Focus, Explorer. These are priced like any mid-size car or crossover. Whether it runs, whether the title is clean, and whether the catalytic converter is still bolted on account for most of the spread.
Two real Ford offers, same day, same city
On August 26, 2026, two 2017 Escapes in Rochester were offered $590 and $610. Same model year, same city, twenty dollars apart. The difference was the condition answers in the form, and that is the whole point of a VIN-based quote: the number is built from the vehicle in front of you, not a model-year average.
Where Fords sit on longevity
iSeeCars' 2025 study puts the F-150 at 5.9% of vehicles reaching 250,000 miles, right at the 4.8% average, while the Super Duty trucks are far above it (F-250 18.6%, F-350 18.3%). That is why a high-mileage Super Duty is almost never a junk sale in New York. If yours still starts, say so in the form; it is the single most valuable fact about the truck.
Title and plates
Fords from 1973 on have a New York title. Bring it, or the registration if the vehicle is old enough for that to be sufficient. Take the plates off before the tow truck arrives and hand them in to the DMV, or your registration and insurance keep running.

Have Questions?
Get answers and get on your way.
Is a 2015-or-newer aluminum F-150 worth more than an older one?
Often yes, but not for the reason people expect. Ford moved the F-150 to a high-strength aluminum-alloy body for 2015, shedding up to 700 pounds. Less weight means the scrap floor barely moves, but a straight aluminum bed, tailgate, or door is expensive new and sought after used. An aluminum F-150 with a good body and a dead engine is a parts sale, and it prices higher for it.
My older F-150 is rusted through. Is it worth anything?
Yes. A steel-bodied F-150 or Super Duty is heavy, and weight sets a floor that a dead car does not have — a truck is never worth nothing. Cab corners, rockers, and the bed floor above the rear wheels are the usual New York rust points, and the buyer prices those in. What moves the number most is whether the engine still turns over.
Why did two identical Escapes get different offers?
Because the quote is built from the vehicle, not the model year. On August 26, 2026 two 2017 Escapes in Rochester were offered $590 and $610 — same model, same city, twenty dollars apart on condition answers alone. That is the point of a VIN-based offer.
Should I junk a high-mileage Super Duty?
Rarely, if it runs. iSeeCars' 2025 study puts the F-250 at 18.6% and the F-350 at 18.3% reaching 250,000 miles, against a 4.8% average — the F-150 sits at 5.9%. A running Super Duty is almost never a scrap sale in New York. Say in the form whether it starts; it is the most valuable fact about the truck.
What do I do with the plates?
Take them off before the tow truck arrives and surrender them to the DMV. If you leave them on the vehicle, your registration and insurance keep running after the truck is gone. Fords from 1973 on have a New York title; bring it, or the registration where the year allows.
